Welcome to Anarchythorn's Wii & DS/3DS (+ More!) Archival Paste!
hi this paste is essentially for me to throw some useful stuff for preserving my fav game consoles (the wii and the DS/3DS), but you can probably find some other stuff here too. i am Very Passionate about video game preservation (media preservation in general, but im specifically fixated on video games ^^;) anyway uhm. give me a bit to format this lawl... huuuuge wip. I'd like to get around to setting this up on something like neocities but for now it's easiest to just put it here. Also, if you want to contribute something, submit here !!
Archival sites & Emulators
- Vimm's Lair : An absolutely amazing resource for all things video game preservation, or at least most. Allows you to download countless ROMs that are otherwise hard to get, expensive, or outright unavailable-- Yes, even WiiWare!
- Archive.org : Similar to Vimm's lair, but MUCH more general; all sorts of media is here. You can find lots of obscure dumped game ROMs here, along with just about any other kind of media. Also home to the Wayback machine, a very useful tool for finding old webpages that are updated or simply don't exist anymore.
- Citra : 3DS emulator that works on Windows, Mac, Linux, and Android (Ive only tested on Windows though). Unfortunately discontinued, but you can use this link to access one of many, many archived versions completely available to download on archive.org.
- Dolphin : A Wii/GameCube emulator for Windows, Mac, and Linux (once again I personally have only used it on Windows). As far as I know it's pretty much the only(?) Wii emulator, at least that I've heard of. Works pretty well, but of course, it's a bit difficult to effectively emulate motion controls without a wii remote; not that that's a fault on Dolphin's part so much as just a limitation of emulation. Although it is possible to use real GameCube and Wii controllers, though I've not yet tried the feature so I can't attest for how good it is.
- melonDS : A functional but work in progress DS emulator for Windows and iOS. I've not personally used it, but it seems promising.
- Azahar emulator : A 3DS emulator based on a fork of Citra by PabloMK7 merged with Lime3DS, for Windows, Mac, Android, and Linux. Haven't used it myself, but it seems relatively well-made, and is being actively worked on to my knowledge.
- AzaharPlus : A fork of Azahar that adds more support for 3DS files and "the ability to download files from official servers. No need for an actual 3DS." Haven't used it either, but again, seems cool.
My Own Archival Efforts
- Transparent DS/3DS cartridge PNGs, currently only a few but I hope to eventually include a lot more as well as variations for different regions if applicable
- Transparent Wii disc PNGs, again currently very limited but planned to add more. All present images are from Vimm's lair, but eventually I will probably have to find some on my own especially if there are alternate versions for regional differences)
Some Misc Stuff
- /wiisports and /dualscreen are home to some wii/3ds/ds games that I personally remember fondly. Suggestions for you, maybe?
- /terrorlinks on rentry has a wide variety of links, but I'm just putting it here for the fact that there are lots of game archival resources listed-- Always remember to be safe when downloading things from unofficial sources!
- mii.nxw.pw is a work-in-progress online Mii creation tool unaffiliated with Nintendo. You do need a Discord account (I think specifically in their server, I can't recall; it's been forever since I joined) to use it, though.
