machine love is a song released in june of 2024 by jamie p, otherwise known for her work in the musical band 'FLAVOR FOLEY' as a part of the daemon doll project, to showcase vocaloid producers big and small and to celebrate kasane teto, the utau and now synthv as popular as her idol hatsune miku. kasane teto was created as an april fools gag on april 1st 2008 by users on the japanese forum 2channel, pretending that she was an upcoming vocaloid to be produced by the famous company and proprieter of hatsune miku crypton media. after a while, she was developed into her own voice bank using the software known as utau, which is an open source and free to use project for anybody to make their own voicebanks, synthesize songs and produce music. the original meaning behind machine love is as a tribute to an old teto song, that being "song of the lost eared robot" by nwp8861.
it is about the truths that lay in hiding within artifice, and a computer falling in love.
due to her popularity, she was later picked up by the official vocaloid company synthv, making her now as close as she could be to an "official" vocaloid. she has also performed in official concerts, both in the 2018 miku symphony where she performed "mischevious function" by gojimaji-p, and later most notably in the hatsune miku japan live tour 2025, where she performed the hit single "mesmerizer" by satsuki, alongside hatsune miku herself.
on the 19th of march 2025, an AI v-tuber known as "neurosama", coded and proprietered by vedal987, would get a request to sing machine love on her karaoke stream. many users loved this, as neurosama was walking the border of what it truly meant for an ai to be human, and found it quite fitting. her fanbase, known as "the swarm" would take to this cover like a moth to light, quickly making an entire 4 minute and 52 second music video of neurosama, mimicking the original's music video and adding it's own charm and flair, featuring over 50 artists, all of which can be viewed here along with their contributions. jamie p herself commented on the song stating "thank you to everyone involved for making something so full of love!! knowing how much i put into the original mv, i know this was a labor of love... neuro-sama's got one hell of a fanbase", the full comment of which can be read in the description of the music video linked here
