basic terms

yumeship - means dream ship in Japanese, an umbrella terms for oc x canon, selfships, ect.
selfships - shipping yourself with a fictional character, can be considered oc x canon aswell depending on the person.
oc x canon - shipping your oc with a canon character, can be considered a selfship depending on the person.
f/o(s) - fictional other(s), the character(s) you ship with.
double - someone who ships with your f/o(s)
riako - means real love in Japanese, someone who takes their love for their f/o(s) seriously, often treating it like a real relationship. originally stemming from idol culture about their oshi.
gachikoi - means serious romantic love, same as above, the masculine or androgynous version of riako.

sharing statuses

nonsharing - would prefer doubles not to interact
selective sharing - sharing depends on the person
sharing - completely ok with sharing
hyper sharing - actively looks out and encourages doubles
mirror sharing - whatever the other persons sharing status is with

misconceptions and misinformation

"yumeshippers are weird!! they believe they're actually dating a fictional character!!" untrue!! for the most part, atleast. most yumeshippers use self/yumeshipping as a hobby or a coping mechanism! its completely healthy, even for riakos/gachikois, they're still aware their partner is fictional!! at the end of the day, its all just fun.

"nonsharers dox and harass their doubles!!" not true!! most of the people that do are trolls or are shunned from the community.

"yumeshippers are delusional!!" thats inherently ableist rhetoric, delusions are a real issue for mentally ill people, and using it as an insult is degrading mentally ill people who suffer from delusions, rather than the people you're trying to hurt.

"sharers/hypersharers don't love their f/os!!" no, they just love them in a different way to you, and thats ok!! not everyone has to feel the same way abour their f/o(s)
